Presenter:
Leah Davis Witherow, Curator of History
Colorado Springs Pioneer Museum
Largely Separate and Unequal: In this illustrated program, Colorado Springs Pioneers Museum Curator of History Leah Davis Witherow will share insights into the early history of tuberculosis care in Colorado Springs. Focusing on the limited treatment options and employment opportunities for Black consumptives and physicians respectively, this presentation will underscore how the availability of quality healthcare in Colorado Springs was dependent on class and race in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Understanding our history helps us explain and understand the present, and this particular story of tuberculosis care in the Pikes Peak Region offers just this sort of insight.
This session will be virtual.
